On March 27, 1970, Fire Fighter Larry M. Reger was part of the CDF, Pescadero Fire Station Rescue Team who responded to a request for help when three teenagers became stranded by high tides in their attempt to walk from Pescadero Beach to Pompanio Beach. Despite desperate attempts by Fire Fighter Larry Reger to reach one of the victims, a 14-year-old female was lost due to heavy surf and high times. The heavy surf and high tides slammed Fire Fighter Larry Reger against rocks and into the surf and made the rescue attempts a great risk and peril to himself. Three other Fire Fighters, in addition to Fire Fighter Larry Reger, were injured in their desperate attempts to rescue the 14-year-old female. The collective effort of the Pescadero Rescue Team saved the lives of the other two 16-year-old teenagers who were stranded on the rock cliffs.
