At approximately 11:50 pm, while on patrol duty in a State Police vehicle along the California Aqueduct in San Bernardino County, Officer LeHoullier responded to the nearby scene of a wild land fire which was threatening citizens in the Green Road area of Pinon Hills. Officer LeHoullier was asked by a United States Forest Service Battalion Chief to evacuate residents on Green Road. His immediate evacuation response was crediting with saving the lives of a husband and wife just minutes before their home exploded from the fire's intensity. After evacuating the couple from the path of the firestorm, Officer LeHoullier became caught in the firestorm. A fire department air tanker dropped its load of fire retardant on his vehicle and the surrounding fire, allowing him a narrow path of escape. Moments later, his vehicle burst into flames.
