Gold Medal of Valor
On October 20, 1994, an elderly man was sitting at a bus stop near Capitol Avenue and 16th Street when a suspect approached him and demanded his wallet. When the victim did not give the suspect his wallet, the suspect stabbed him the arm with a knife. Ms. Contreras Holguin was driving in the area when she observed the victim trying to get away from the suspect. Ms. Contreras Holguin yelled at the suspect to leave the victim alone. The suspect approached Ms. Contreras Holguin’s car and made threatening gestures at her. Ms. Contreras Holguin edged her car toward the victim and the suspect until she was able to block the suspect and get the victim into her car. She drove the victim to Sutter General Hospital where he was treated for a laceration on his arm.
