Tony S. Nunes

At 10:00 a.m., Officers Tony S. Nunes and Scott Worley were on patrol when they observed smoke in the roadway at 18 Street north of K Street. The officers located the source of the smoke as the rear wall of a building on 18th street. Officers Nunes and Worley approached the building and saw flames coming from the rear of the residence. The officer requested Sacramento City Fire and began awakening the residents. All but two residents emerged from the building, so Officer Nunes and Worley approached the southern upper apartment and banged on the door. The apartment was filled with smoke and after banging loudly on the door, the officers were about to kick it in when the resident answered.

He had been sleeping soundly. The officers entered the apartment and confirmed the residency was not further occupied. The officer spoke with the people on the sidewalk and were told that one resident was still unaccounted for and they were not sure if she was home or not. Officer Nunes and Worley again went up to the second floor of the burning building and repeatedly banged on the missing resident’s apartment door, but there was no answer. With smoke increasing and no confirmed ETA from the fire department, Officer Worley kicked in the two, the two officers entered and confirmed the apartment was unoccupied. The officers gathered all the residents in from of the building and everyone was accounted for.
