On February 8, 2007, at approximately 6:15 p.m., California Department of Motor Vehicles’ employee Nathaniel (Nate) Williams was driving east of Interstate 5, down March Lane in Stockton. Suddenly, a vehicle, driven by a 30-year old man, jumped a median and hit a minivan and a pick-up truck. Mr. Williams, whose vehicle was nearly hit by the out-of-control sedan, abandoned his vehicle and sprinted across traffic to assist. Despite the 9 foot high flames coming out of the front of the victim’s vehicle, Mr. Williams and an unidentified woman, who had a small fire extinguisher, pulled the unconscious victim out of the burning vehicle. The Stockton Fire Department Battalion Chief called Mr. Williams a hero and the victim was transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
