On September 29, 2010, at approximately 10:05 a.m., Electrician Jamie Hill was performing routine traffic signal maintenance in downtown Stockton when he observed a vehicle driving erratically down a surface street. As he got closer, he saw a man in the passenger side, a carjacker, violently attacking the female driver. Mr. Hill called dispatch to report the vehicle’s license plate number.
The car stopped suddenly and the woman, who was pregnant, fled the vehicle. The carjacker jumped out of the car, ran after her and tried to catch her. With no thought to whether or not the carjacker had a weapon, Mr. Hill quickly got out of his work vehicle and jumped in between the woman and the attacker, immediately halting the assault. The carjacker fled the scene and Mr. Hill comforted the woman until the Stockton police arrived.
