"On April 10, 2004, Officer Barry Parker of the San Francisco Police Department and his
partner were assigned to a plainclothes detail in a gang ridden neighborhood in San
Francisco. The officers were looking for violent street gang members. At
approximately 9:30 p.m., the two officers encountered a suspicious person who they
suspected was armed. After approaching this individual, who was later identified as a
member of a street gang, the two officers were fired upon. During the incident, Officer
Parker attempted to save his partner, who ultimately died from his wounds, by using
his body as a human shield."
