On September 8, 2017, at 4:30 p.m., Department of Insurance Fraud Detective Antonio Camacho was inside of a bank in Ontario, California when he heard yelling behind him. He turned around and saw a man holding a baseball bat and following another individual into the bank. Detective Camacho feared the armed man was going to hit the individual with the bat, so as the suspect came closer to him he wrapped his arms around his upper torso and arms preventing him from swinging the bat. Detective Camacho then wrestled the man to the ground, placing him in a rear arm hold while the suspect attempted to flee. The police department responded to the bank and arrested the suspect. Detective Camacho’s accelerated perception of danger and his directed focus on the safety and defense of the public, resulted in the prevention of possible serious bodily injury to the individual, all while putting his own life in danger.
With no regard for his own safety, Detective Camacho went above and beyond the call of duty.
The State of California takes great pride in presenting this Silver Medal of Valor to Department of Insurance Fraud Detective Antonio Camacho.
